• To educate the students about the basics of diagnosis and treatment planning. • To familiarize the student with component parts of fixed partial denture. • To understand the basics of selection of an appropriate fixed partial denture design. • To enable the students to recognize and practice the different clinical steps from tooth preparation to final cementation of restorations. • To enable students to be acquainted with the common infections and to practice principles of sterilization and infection control .

Course outcomes:

a. Knowledge and Understanding:
	1- Employ the different diagnostic aids for proper diagnosis 2- Classify different types of temporary restorations 3- Classify the different types of tissue dilation 4- Classify the different types of impression materials & techniques. 5- Classify different types of pontics 6- Classify different types of partial coverage restorations.
b. Intellectual Skills:
	1- Select restoration designs properly 2- Design proper treatment planning using diagnostic skills and knowledge 3- Interpret the data obtained by the different diagnostic measures 4- Apply the most comfortable patient-Dentist chair position 5- Apply the different clinical steps involved in tooth preparation to receive final restoration
c. Professional and Practical Skills:
	1- Use different diagnostic skills and techniques properly 2- Select the proper way of tissue dilation 3- Use different impression techniques properly 4- Use impression index and celluloid crowns for construction of temporary restoration 5- Use treated retraction cord to perform tissue dilation
