Course outcomes:

a. Knowledge and Understanding:

1- Identify the mechanism of innate and acquired immune mechanisms and related immune cells.
2- State the different complement pathways and its role in immunity and inflammation
3- Recall the macro- and microanatomy of the periodontium
4- Define different diseases affecting the periodontium
5- Recognize the clinical signs and symptoms and radiographic features of plaque induced gingivitis and chronic periodontitis.
6- State the etiology and local predisposing factors of the periodontal diseases.
7- Describe the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases.

b. Intellectual Skills:

1- Compare between innate and acquired immune responses.
2- Differentiate between different types of lymphocytes, subtypes of types T lymphocytes and different functions of antibodies
3- Recognize different periodontal diseases.
4- Differentiate between the different histopathological stages of gingivitis
5- Relate the clinical and radiographic features to reach a proper diagnosis

c. Professional and Practical Skills:

1- Fill a periodontal chart
2- Diagnose common gingival and periodontal diseases.
3- Apply the principles of periodontal instrumentation
4- Perform scaling and root planing efficiently.
5- Select the appropriate technique and methods for mechanical plaque control.
6- Modify the plan for chemical plaque control according to observed signs and symptoms
7- Apply infection control guidelines for all clinical procedures

1- Maintain good relationship with his/her colleagues, instructors, and professors.
