a) expand students analytical skills to distinguish between various periodontal diseases. b) relate periodontal diseases to various systemic modifying factors. c) formulate proper diagnosis and treatment plan for periodontal diseases. d) provide opportunities for review and analysis of a wide range of non surgical and surgical periodontal therapy. e) introduce the recent techniques and materials related to periodontal regeneration.

Course outcomes:

a. Knowledge and Understanding:

1- Identify the different systemic modifying factors affecting the periodontium.
2- Describe the etiology, clinical and radiographic features and management of aggressive periodontitis..
3- State the etiology, clinical and radiographic features and management of acute gingival and periodontal conditions.
4- Recall the diagnosis of periodontal diseases according to the new classification.
5- Enumerate the factors that affect risk assessment of periodontal disease.
6- Identify factors affecting prognosis of different periodontal diseases.
7- Describe different modalities of non-surgical periodontal therapy, surgical periodontal therapy and regenerative periodontal surgeries.

b. Intellectual Skills:

1- Classify the systemic predisposing factors
2- Distinguish between chronic and aggressive periodontitis.
3- Interpret different signs and symptoms and relate them to various gingival and periodontal diseases.
4- Propose the proper treatment plan for different gingival and periodontal conditions.
5- Assess the risk assessment elements of periodontal disease.

c. Professional and Practical Skills:

1- Perform nonsurgical periodontal therapy
2- Refere patients with periodontal diseases to surgical periodontal therapy when indicated
3- Perform periodontal examination
4- Diagnose different types of periodontal diseases
5- Formulate a treatment plan for different periodontal conditions

d. General and Transferable Skills:

1- Exercise effective communication methods with other health care professionals and auxiliary personals to maximize patient benefits and minimize the risk of errors
