Area of Study :

This course provides the student with overall useful knowledge about pediatric dentistry to implement it on pediatric dental patients in order to develop a more ideal oral structure from a metabolic, functional and esthetic view in these growing organisms. • To differentiate between morphology in primary and permanent dentition. • It provides students with knowledge about normal occlusion and development of dentition. • To understand child psychology, proper management, behavior modification and the ability to establish a positive attitude towards dental treatment in child patient. • To enable the students to diagnose and to treat dental caries among children and adolescents. • To understand techniques of pain control through conscious sedation and local anesthesia. • To differentiate oral signs and symptoms of viral infections in children.

a. Knowledge and Understanding:

1- Recognize the different methods and techniques of pain control for children.
2- - Recognize the aim and benefits of pedodontics for children, dentist, and nation.
3- State the importance of primary teeth.
4- - Describe the factors that influence the child behavior in dental office and the different psychological management approaches.
5- -Describe the indications and types of premedication and their application in clinical practice (pharmacological management).
6- Illustrate the morphological differences between the primary and permanent dentition and their significance in clinical practice.
7- Describe the normal occlusion of pediatric patients at different ages of life.
8- Identify the different restorative techniques and materials for children.
