Area of Study :

1-Be competent in performing root canal treatment clinically in uncomplicated single and multi-canaled human permanent teeth with pulpal and peri-radicular including necrotic pulp with or without peri-radicular involvement. 2-Provide appropriate emergency treatment for the relief of symptoms associated with pulpal and peri-radicular diseases. 3-Provide management of endodontically treated teeth. 4-Be familiar with diagnosis and technical procedures involved in endodontic surgery 5-correlate endodontic treatment with other specialties 6-Consider the possibility of referral to a specialist in complicated cases

Course outcomes:

a. Knowledge and Understanding:

1- state the anatomic pathways of communication between the dental pulp and the periodontium
2- Describe the effects of pulpal disease and endodontic procedures on the periodontium and vice versa
3- Describe requirements of an adequate restoration and how it protects longevity of endodontically treated teeth.
4- - Identify restorative options before commencing root canal treatment
5- - List indications and contraindication for endosurgery.
6- - List indications and steps for different flaps, sutures designs.
7- List different combinations, dosages of antibiotics for prescription.

b. Intellectual Skills:

1- - Select cases suitable for endodontic treatment.
2- Select suitable restoration materials according to the patient condition
3- Select appropriate management techniques for failed restorations according to principles.
4- Classify different types of analgesics
5- Judged quality of endodontically treated teeth for retreatment
6- Correlate between endo- and perio lesions for proper line of treatment

c. Professional and Practical Skills:

1- prepare the clinical operating position and field accurately ( Either using the two hand technique or the four hand technique ).
2- perform nonsurgical root canal treatment for anterior and premolar teeth
3- - take periapical radiographs using ( direct and horizontal shift ) and film processing for the clinical cases during endodontic treatment.
4- manage emergency case using supplemental anesthesia techniques
5- - write a prescription for managing endodontic pain and infections
6- refer patient to other medical or dental specialties if needed.
7- interpret the preoperative, working length determination, master cone and postoperative periapical radiographs.

d. General and Transferable Skills:

1- appreciate life-long learning and updates
2- Handle patients complaints professionally.
