1)-To educate the students about the basic features of facial growth and development 2)- To familiarize the student with principles of occlusion. 3)- to familiarize the students with malocclusion and etiological factors associated with it. To enable the students to diagnose orthodontic problems. 4)- To enable development and application of appropriate professional attitudes and communication.

Course outcomes:

a. Knowledge and Understanding:
	1- Recognize the basis of normal human facial growth and development from birth until completion of growth 2- Describe the stages of normal development of occlusion during infancy , primary dentition , mixed dentition , and permanent dentition 3- Recognize the phases of eruption and their effect on development of malocclusion 4- Define the terminology of mal-posed teeth and different types of classification of malocclusion 5- Identify the etiological factors of malocclusion and its impact on the developing occlusion 6- Describe extra-oral and intra-oral examination from an orthodontic perspective
b. Intellectual Skills:
	1- distinguish between normal occlusion and abnormal deviations that necessitates treatment 2- differentiate between different causes of malocclusion and prophylactic measures against it.
c. Professional and Practical Skills:
	1- Record accurately patient's chief compliant 2- Document a complete focused medical and dental history for patients 3- Assess extra-oral and intraoral findings of the patient including head and neck , oral hard and soft tissues 4- Appraise Orofacial findings of the orthodontic patient 5- Prescribe diagnostic aids appropriate for every individual case 6- Interpret acquired data in term of their diagnostic significances 7- Diagnose underlying dento-skeletal abnormalities

	1- Communicate with other healthcare professionals both verbally and in globally accepted written formats 2- Recognize moral and ethical responsibilities involved in the provision of care to individual patents and to community
